AWO Current Competency

Certified observers must have completed a competency assessment within the 36 months prior to performing an observation. In addition, where an observation has not been performed in an operational shift within the last 6 months, a competency assessment must be completed prior to resuming observing duties.

The assessment requirements vary between AWO Class A and Class B observers due to the differing privileges of each class.

Observer certification requirements are specified in the Meteorological Authority's Qualifications and Competencies - Aerodrome Weather Observers policy.

The BMTC AWO Current Competency: Class A assessment meets the Meteorological Authority's competency assessment requirements for persons who provide weather observations for aeronautical purposes in Australia and its Territories.
